60-169MW Composite Wood Cabinetry | | Product | 60-169MW | Application | High-end office furnishings for professional offices i.e. Dental, Physician, etc. | Client | Furniture Manufacturer | Sector | Composite Wood Cabinetry | Work piece | Office Cabinets for a Dental Office | Material | 3/4? materials = Baltic Birch Plywood, MDO Double Sided HPL on MDF | Machine | Holzer Cosmic Conquest CNC Router | Tool | 60-169MW 3 Flute Solid Carbide Max Life, .500" Diameter | Situation | 60-123 MW 3 Flute Solid Carbide Max Life, .375" Diameter | Problem | Tool life is very short and part edge finish could be improved for edge banding. | Solution | Switching to the larger diameter tool allows for heavier chip loads which cause more heat to exit with the chips and it has more mass to absorb the cutting forces of the more difficult materials. Both of these factors will also improve part finishes. | Cutting data | 60-123MW Vf (IPM) = 750 IPM or 18.75 m/m V1 (RPM) = 14,000 rpm or 419 m/m fz (Chip load) = .018 ? or .46 mm ap (ADOC) = .75" or 19 mm ae (RDOC) =.375" or 9.5 mm | 60-169MW Vf (IPM) = 750 IPM or 18.75 m/m V1 (RPM) = 9,000 rpm or 269 m/m fz (Chip load) = .028" or .71 mm ap (ADOC) = .75" or 19 mm ae (RDOC) = .50" or 12.7mm |
| Benefit | The tool because of its larger mass and more strength has better tool life and better part edge finish. The chip load needed to be increased to allow for better heat removal with the chips. Tool life went from 12 to 15 sheets to 50 to 60 sheets. This represents a 400% increase in life. Also they can regrind the tool one time which they could not on the smaller tool because of the excessive wear. The part's edge finish is good for any edge banding requirements. | Target markets | Custom made top quality Wood Composite Furniture and Furnishings |
