Proper Uses For Drill Bits And Router Bits

Knowing whether to use drill bits or router bits is an important thing to know before starting any project. There are many different things that you have to consider that will help you differentiate between drill bits and router bits. Once you can distinguish the two, it will be easy to decide which ones are better for certain projects.

A lot of people make the mistake of assuming that they are the same, or at least similar enough that they can be used interchangeably for any type of project. This is far from the truth, and in fact, causes a lot of damage to the bits and materials being cut. Because many people do not know the differences between the two, they often destroy their router bits and have poor performance by programming the router to drive the bit straight through the material. One of the biggest differences between router bits and drill bits is the angle at which they drill.

Router bits are typically designed to go into the material at an angle. Trying to drill a straight hole with them will hurt the router bits and wear them out quicker. For certain materials, it is possible to use router bits with plunge tips, but those are designed to bore straight through the material. Similar to router bits, drill bits also vary in their uses. It is important to note that drill bits come in different sizes and cuts, so being able to differentiate them between router bits and other drill bits is important to ensure that both the project and the bits remain in good quality. There are different types of drill bits that are used on different projects, but they should always drill straight into the material. They can also be damaged if they are digging into the material at an angle.
