Wood Auger Drill Bits

Although there are many different types of drill bits, most people think of wood drill bits when they imagine any drilling jobs around the home. There are many different types of wood boring drill bits, and they are all appropriate for different purposes. Some of the most commonly used wood drill bits are wood auger drill bits.

Wood auger drill bits are perfect for drilling deep holes with large diameters in wood, as well as some thicker man-made materials. Wood auger drill bits are generally used in hand braces, in which they cut clean, deep and flat-bottomed holes. There are single spurs in these types of wood drill bits that leave well-defined edges on all the holes they cut, and cutting edges that remove the waste in the inside of the cut circles.

The last part of these wood boring drill bits is the threaded centers, which puncture the wood and pull the bits in. In order to sharpen this variety of wood boring drill bits, one must use a fine file or oilstone to keep the spur and main cutting edges sharp. It is important to sharpen any type of wood boring drill bits regularly, and keep them in a safe place. Wood boring drill bits, such as the auger bits, can get expensive, but if they are properly cared for they can last a lifetime.
