Company History 

For over 70 years, the experts at what is now LMT Onsrud have stood for unparalleled tool building quality and precision.

LMT Onsrud specializes in carbide milling cutters, focused in particular on the high-speed machining of aluminum, plastic, and composite materials.

Together with LMT Belin, the company is the Competence Center for composite machining within the LMT Group.



 Timeline: 1920 

Onsrud Machine Works was founded in Chicago by Oscar and Rudolph Onsrud soon after they invented the

router in 1920. The Onsrud name has always been a very strong franchise in woodworking and non-ferrous

metal machining. Through the years, Onsrud has been helping companies manufacture products as varied as

aircraft, boats, furniture, semi-conductors and medical devices.


 Timeline: 1979 

Onsrud Cutter Manufacturing Group and its subsidiaries were sold to an employee investment group.

The company was renamed Onsrud Cutter, Inc. (OCI). Annual sales in 1979 were $6.5 million.


 Timeline: 1989 

Onsrud Cutter introduced a line of tooling specifically designed to cut plastics. From a modest

start of 48 SKUs in 1983, this plastics line has developed into a complete catalog of 650 tools for

plastic machining and now accounts for 31% of Onsrud Cutter’s total volume.

Onsrud Cutter Inc. celebrates 50 successful years in Libertyville, Illinois


 Timeline: 1996 

June 2, 1996 was proclaimed as Onsrud Cutter Day by the County Board of Lake County

in recognition of 50 years of service to the community.

LMT Onsrud celebrated its 70th anniversary.
